Permaculture Farming Project Nicaragua
To dovetail with ecosystem health, SVI promotes Regenerative Farming Practices to increase food yields on available land and increase local food independence. We develop hearty crops and healthy animals through permaculture design concepts to improve the soil while simultaneously improving agricultural yields and increasing available food sources. Of course, animals are a key component to a healthy regenerative farm.
The beginnings of creating our Permaculture farm....... Using the abundant volcanic rocks available, swails were built to help with water retention and decrease soil erosion during the heavy rainy season. "Slow the water down and spread it out." Also pictured here are planted Moringa trees which provide soil infrastructure, shade for plants growing below them, and a source of biomass. The Moringa tree is quite a generous tree which gives us protein, oil, powerful antioxidants, and vitamins for both humans and animals.....and grows quickly even in harsh dry environments... generous, indeed!
